Mahalo’s Number One Fan or at least I hope I am ;)

March 30th, 2008 · View Comments

I have to admit that when I came across Mahalo back in November 2007, I was little skeptical (just like the rest of the world); however, now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

At first I was just a casual user, but something kicked me in to gear…  I was highly motivated when I found out that Jason Calacanis was offering a new MacBook Air to his employees and one to anyone that could meet a specific metric (as mentioned on his blog).  So, like anyone on a mission, I started recommending links like crazy.  Well, in no time, I became number one on the Mahalo Leaderboard.  During that time, I had a little competition with user: ssravp, but in the end, I currently (at the time of this blog) have 1563 recommended links, 128 accepted links and 150 friends/fans.  The Mahalo folks were so thankful for all of my links, they sent me some nice SWAG, as seen below :)

I got a towel, a hat and a coffee mug!!  FUN!!

Well, as you might except, the SWAG gave me new hope and fire under my butt :) .  So, I posted even MORE links…   I have been a “link post-er” ever since and probably will be forever.

I have enjoyed the Mahalo world for the past 5 months!  I can’t seem to stop :)
So much that I have created about 5 videos about Mahalo and made a silly commercial about Mahalo vs. Google or “Hi, I’m Google and I’m Mahalo” as mentioned on Jason Calacanis’ blog.
Here is the video if you want to watch, please comment if you have the time.

Anyway, as time marched on, Jason Calacanis decided to not give away the laptop as he mentioned in his blog (back in January)… but to give it away randomly to one of his followers on Twitter (only if gets to 20,000 followers and is number one – and beats Scobleizer).
Well, I think that is a bunch of hog wash!!!!!  I have worked my butt off to “EARN” the title of number one fan and number one on the leaderboard.  I don’t expect anything now; however, I am just a little put out by the whole thing!  I totally understand why he is doing this… MARKETSHARE :)        OK, I am done :)

Now, don’t get me wrong, I think Mahalo has the right idea and they have a sound solution.  Organized information and a proper work flow (that I truly admire and hopefully will apply to my website one day).

Actually I think all sites should take a lesson from Mahalo!
